The serious stuff about Pam

Posted by Pam Hopkins on

Pam Hopkins CV

Sunshine Coast artist Pam Hopkins has been painting and drawing all of her life. Her first art awards were for pastels at the Mary Valley show in the Under 13 year’s section.

Pam studied art at Kedron Park Teacher’s College and qualified as a teacher in 1994.Even though she taught all subjects, she often found herself in charge of art classes in the small schools where she was posted.

After the birth of her son in 1979, Pam decided that she wanted to be a full-time Mum but soon found that she needed more. She approached Michael Blumenthall from Banco Fine Arts in Caloundra and he became somewhat of a mentor. Mike advised and guided her in the sometimes tricky gallery scene, becoming her agent until his untimely death in 1994.Pam opened her own gallery in April 1994 where she exhibited and sold her work for nine years. In 2003, Pam and husband Josh decided that they had had enough of working in the gallery seven days a week and they set up a home studio in order to have a better lifestyle.

Pam paints mainly in acrylics because they suit her style, but has used all media. Her subjects vary from horses and cattle working with people in all situations, to bright, happy impressions of people on the Coast. She always tries to have things ‘happening’ in her work.
